Carrot safari
We have been on the yearly event: the carrot safari. All employees at Marienlyst and all the carrot producers had a lovely day round and about, where we saw most of the carrot fields.
Among other places we were in Bording, where we saw Bjarne's new piece of land, which has given several challenges. He had to resow a big part of the field because of sand drift. When there is a strong wind in the light sands, all the sand, seed and sprouts can blow away! Besides that, the field has had some frequent visitors: Red deer. They have both eaten the carrots, and stepped and destroyed some by walking in the field.
On the way we also saw Jens Christian's very large field in Christianshede; and we visited Knud and Bajrne in Sepstrup by Them. Also we admired Henrik's fields in Funder. It is the first year Henrik tries out as an independent carrot grower, and he has done a good job, so we are hoping that he has the courage to continue.
We also got time to see "Osteriget Hinge" (a farm with own dairy) as a variety to all the carrots. Besides seeing all the cows and the dairy, we also got a good talk about ecology, because the owner is the chairman of "Økologisk Landsforening", the organic national association.

What a view! Carrots as far as the eye can see. A much needed rest
Round carrots
Billede Billede
Home at the factory we are packing round carrots. A small, almost ball-shaped carrot that you can almost eat in a mouthful. It would probably be a sensation in the lunch boxes.
