Week 34 2008
| We are packing a lot of carrots and potatoes - but the weather is not with us
Carrots: We are packing the sorts Maestro and Nevis this week. Maestro is a good, aromatic carrot, while Nevis has a sweet and nutty like taste. They are delivered from Bjarne Hansen in Bording.
Potatoes: The current sorts are Marabel and Sava. Marabel comes from Arne Nielsen in Bording, and it is a really good potato with a delicate taste. Bjarne Hansen delivers Sava,
which has a very fin quality. It is firm when boiled, and has a great taste. Very suitable for peeling.
Beetroots: Our own beetroots are not ready yet, but we have some from Aarstiderne.

Everybody is kept occupied in the factory with washing, sorting and packing carrots and potatoes. There is not a lot of field work, because we are not harvesting any of our own crops this week.

The weather is teasing!

The biggest challenge this week is the weather. Specially with potatoes it is important that they are harvested when it is dry, to avoid rot.
We have not had a lot of dry days this week, so we are doing what we can to dry the potatoes before packing them.

The carrots are challenging us
This time of the year the carrots are a challenge too. A fungus that is found naturally in the soil, and that does not do any harm in the natural environment, give problems when the carrots are mechanically treated in the factory. When the carrots are washed, they can no longer protect themselves, therefore they are easy victims of fungus attacks.
This is also why you might experience the fact that the carrots stays fresh for a shorter period of time.
