History Marienlyst was started by Mogens Hansen in 1982, when we had cultivated a smaller area of vegetables for the market in Århus. Everything was done by the organic method, upon the ideology of producing clean, healthy and vital food. The market garden soon developed into also selling packaged groceries to the supermarket chains, and after 10 years of selling directly to the customers, we choose to sell alone to the whole sellers and also deal with import and export. After this, Marienlyst also started to work as a sorting and packaging house for other Danish growers products, and every day we provide the stores with fresh organic vegetables. Throughout the years we have been growing all kinds of different vegetables here, and we know that it all can be done by the organic method. However, today we grow the 12-15 different vegetables we do best. Cultivation Marienlyst has a smaller area of greenhouses, which are used for different kinds of plants in the summer. On the fields around the property, we grow the vegetables that need to be harvested and sold right away. The products that have a longer durability, we grow at rented areas at other organic fields. Each year, we grow different organic vegetables in about 30-50 hectare land. At Marienlyst we grow and harvest vegetables all year round. For instance, we also harvest carrots in the winter time. We only work with organic production in all relations and at all production areas. Employees Both educated gardeners and farmers work at Marienlyst, as well as unskilled workers, from both sexes. But common for all of them, is that they all have an interest in organic production, and they all do their best for us to deliver healthy products and to develop the organic method. There is always room for students who are taking their education at Marienlyst. It means a lot to us to be able to give out our experiences to young people who wants to continue the organic growing of the Danish soil. We also have a lot of young people working here during the summer. Network We work with most of the other organic gardeners in Denmark, where we share experiences and thrive to always improve our methods. This dialogue is also very important, to reminding each other of the original ideas of the organic growing methods. Marienlyst is a member of the organic fruit and vegetable producer association, "Biodania", where all members only grow and pack organic groceries. There is therefore no mix with traditionally cultivated products. Import/Export Marienlyst has over the years built good relations with many organic producers throughout Europe. From these contacts we import groceries when the Danish season for a certain product is over. It is important that this trade is made directly from grower to grower, since personal knowledge is the best way of ensuring organically developed products. The wide foreign contact base makes it possible for us to know what goes on in other countries, concerning organic products. This also makes our export to foreign customers easier, and we can also give them a chance to see the way we cultivate our vegetables in Denmark. Customers You can find some of our products in the supermarket chains such as Netto, Føtex, Bilka, Superbrugsen, Kvickly, Obs, Spar and other grocery stores. We also provide groceries to "weekly boxes", which are delivered directly to the customers. In addition to that, we have foreign customers in international countries such as Norway and England.
